Our offering to you
For The Men is a trauma-informed online space for men to come together in a group setting and do the work of taking responsibility for their emotional experience in the world.
We offer you:
- An expertly facilitated, therapeutic group experience – informed by the work of Gabor Maté
- How to approach your wounds from a compassionate, healing stance – digging deep into the past and starting to understand why it all just makes so much sense
- The opportunity to learn, practise and experience relating to yourself and others from a place of safety and authenticity
- An invitation to step into the freedom of a life unconstrained by the conditioning of the past and into a life of connection and possibility
You can expect
- One intro call (the Sunday before we start)
- Six biweekly (that’s every other week) 90min group sessions
- ‘Off-week’ pair work
We will explore these themes
- Who are we as men?
- Why did I become the man I am?
- Who am I really, in my Essence?
- What are my fears that keep me from connecting deeply with others?
- How have I harmed myself and others?
- Celebrating our connection & authenticity
Each meeting will follow this structure
- A grounding (a short meditation)
- Group check-in
- Breakout room and whole group discussion on the session theme (as well as some time for individual reflection)
- Closing sharing + takeaways

The facilitators
Bret Hunt
Bret Hunt is a board-certified emergency medicine physician who is trained in Compassionate Inquiry, Gabor Mate’s psychotherapeutic approach.
As a practicing physician and therapist, Bret has worked with thousands of people struggling with mental health issues, addiction, and illness. Perhaps even more importantly, he has done extensive personal work on healing those very issues in himself.

He lives in the Upper Midwest of the United States with his wife and three daughters.
Joe Baldock
Joe is a Certified Compassionate Inquiry Practitioner and mainly works one to one with clients around the world on Zoom. He is also an experienced facilitator and works in the UK homelessness sector as a trainer and consultant.
Having trained with Gabor Maté and Sat Dharam Kaur (Beyond Addiction & Compassionate Inquiry), he’s now training with Bruce Springsteen’s therapist, Terry Real – a couples therapist with a specialism in male depression, grandiosity & shame.

In his spare time, Joe loves playing progressive metal riffs on his guitar and drums!

More about the Off-week pair work
As part of your commitment to the group, you will be paired up with another man for the week between meetings and encouraged to check-in with each other – updating each other how you are doing emotionally, sharing what you want to share.
Maybe some weeks you’ll click with the other man, some weeks not so much. This is all part of the relational practice, understanding what you feel comfortable to share (or not) and with whom.
We include this pair work as part of the experience as it has been fundamental to the forming of our own friendship. We are confident you will benefit from this too!
Group safety & connection
Our commitment to you is that we will show up for you each session as our authentic selves, doing our best to facilitate an open, curious and compassionate space.
We will do our best to create and maintain a space of safety, honouring some basic rules (nothing that you will find controversial). We will challenge any abuse and if necessary ask people to leave if they continue to be abusive to other members of the group.
It goes without saying, this is a welcoming space for any and all men, regardless of your background.
During our time together, we will continue with our own practices of self-care which include meeting with our own therapists, supervisors and all the other bits and pieces we do to keep ourselves well to hold the space for you all.
